Each year, U.S. News & World Report publishes its rankings of colleges and universities from around the country. Here’s how Virginia fared:

BEST NATIONAL UNIVERSITIES (private and public)
Univ. of Virginia: tied for 23
College of William and Mary: 32
Virginia Tech: tied for 71

BEST LIBERAL ARTS COLLEGES
Washington and Lee: 17
Univ. of Richmond: tied for 33
Virginia Military Institute: tied for 71 (and No. 3 in Top 5 Public Liberal Arts Colleges)
Sweet Briar: tied for 84
Hampden-Sydney: tied for 98
Hollins Univ.: tied for 98

TOP 50 PUBLIC UNIVERSITIES
University of Virginia: 2
College of William and Mary: 6
Virginia Tech: tied for 30

TOP UNIVERSITIES – MASTER’S
James Madison University: 4
Univ. of Mary Washington: 7
